NEW HAVEN POLICE MAKE ARREST IN SEXUAL ASSAULT INCIDENT
(11/18/2008) NEW HAVEN- New Haven Police arrested 49-year-old Robert Thompson for sexually assaulting a female victim at approximately 1am on Saturday. The victim was walking down Sherman Avenue near the Knickerbocker Club when she was approached by Thompson. After engaging in conversation, Thompson led the victim to his house where he proceeded to punch her in the face repeatedly and sexually assault her, restraining her from leaving. Once Thompson was asleep, the victim was able to flee the scene and flag down police. Officers arrived at the scene of the crime and found that Thompson had fled. Detectives investigating the case located Thompson at his temporary job in North Haven. He was apprehended and arrested without incident.
Thompson has been charged with the following: Sexual Assault 1st, Kidnapping 1st, Assault 3rd and Threatening 2nd. Thompson is a registered sex offender in Pennsylvania and has been out of compliance there since 2006. He is also currently out of compliance in Connecticut and will have an arrest warrant forthcoming.
